Exploring the mountains:

going up!

Hiking and mountaineering are at the heart of the Excelsior Dolomites Life Resort because as real mountain people, we hold the mountains dear to our hearts and love to guide our guests to the most beautiful places in the region. Our hotel is located in the largest UNESCO World Heritage area in South Tyrol. So it’s the perfect place to get your hiking boots on and set off towards the summit. With every step, you get a little closer to absolute freedom. The weight of the world falls away when you reach the first Alpine pastures and see the birds circling almost weightlessly overhead. For ambitious mountaineers, every hike on the high plateaus in the nature park provides a view of the famous Three Peaks, which you can hike around or climb on a single-day tour. As a member of the best hiking hotels in the Alps, we promise absolute expertise and competence in all aspects of hiking.

Our hiking tips

Legend Trail right in St. Vigil

For families, there are various options to explore the mountains and their history. If you want to try your hand at a short loop, the Legend Trail right in St. Vigil is the place for you. The path runs along the stream for three kilometres and is lined with eleven display boards that tell exciting stories about famous characters from Fanes legends and Princess Dolasilla.

Fanes hut

Water is also a main feature when you hike with your children from the Pederü Alpine guesthouse to the Fanes hut with its lakes. This tour is longer and more demanding but still manageable, even with children. The relatively easy high-altitude trail leads up the mountain with a constant incline. The Fanes hut or Lavarella hut at 2,042 metres above sea level is your destination – although your children will probably be drawn to the Lé Vert/Grünsee lake a little further south. Those who still have strength in their calves may want to go a little further to Limo lake, which is situated picturesquely at 2,159 metres above sea level.

Sennes hut

The route from the Pederü Alpine guesthouse up to the Sennes hut is suitable for everyone. A good 600 metres in altitude are covered over a total of 4.7 kilometres. You will be rewarded with a unique panorama at 2,126 metres above sea level.

Piz da Peres

Anyone setting out from the Furkelpass to the summit of Piz da Peres (2,507 metres above sea level) should be an experienced hiker. This is a wonderfully varied hike through the forest, over meadows, hills, and dales and requires some surefootedness. You start at the reservoir on the Furkelpass, taking trail number 3 towards Piz da Peres. The path is steep and quite narrow in parts; it leads past the foot of the northern slopes of the mountain. The trail heads towards the Forcella Tre Dita/Dreifingerscharte between Piz da Peres and Punta Tre Dita/Dreifingerspitze (2,479 metres above sea level), where it continues upwards in many hairpin bends. From the Forcella Tre Dita/Dreifingerscharte, the trail leads across meadows to the summit cross of the Piz da Peres, which lies exactly opposite the Plan de Corones/Kronplatz.
